Philipp Eng, from BMW #24, achieved an impressive lap time of 1:13.349 to secure the fastest time at Laguna Seca.

After a disrupted first practice session for all teams, the second practice session became crucial to get acquainted with the new track surface, which offered better grip. Philipp Eng, from BMW, clocked a lap time in the 1:13.000 range, surpassing the best time from the first practice session. BMW #25 also performed well, with Nick Yelloly and Connor De Phillippi finishing just a few tenths behind BMW’s best overall time in the GTP category.

Sebastien Bourdais, in Cadillac #01, also showed progress, completing over 50 laps at Laguna Seca and finishing just a few tenths off the best time. The Cadillac team took advantage of the final practice session after having limited practice opportunities the day before.

Porsche cars #7 and #6 completed the top five in the GTP class, with Dane Cameron and Felipe Nasr in Porsche #7 finishing just a few tenths behind the top three. Both Porsche cars also utilized FP2, completing around 50 laps each.

Despite Jack Aitken’s serious accident at turn four yesterday, Cadillac team #31 Whelen made significant progress and secured sixth place. The extended red flag period and reduced practice time did not hinder their performance, as they managed a lap time just below 1:13.000.

In the GTD class, Ben Barnicoat, in the Lexus #14, set an impressive lap time of 1:20.376. As the track evolved and grip improved for the GTD cars, faster lap times were achieved, but this also led to more errors. The McLaren Inception and Ford Mustang #55 went off track at turn six. Additionally, the Ferrari AF Corse #34 had issues with the rear suspension.

The Corvette #4 finished in second place in the GTD class, followed by the McLaren #9 and the Lamborghini #45. The top five were rounded out by the Porsche #77, with the three cars ahead separated by just a tenth of a second. Alexander Sims, in the Corvette #3, finished the session in sixth place, a tenth behind.

IMSA action will continue with qualifying at 12:35 UK time.
