The newly appointed leader of BMW Motorrad, Markus Flasch, acknowledged the potential for BMW to enter MotoGP in the future. The upcoming rule changes in 2027 have sparked interest from the German manufacturer, and there are already rumors circulating about a possible agreement with Dorna. These rule changes will require manufacturers to transition to smaller engines of 850cc and incorporate fully sustainable fuels. Flasch shared with the German publication Motorrad that BMW M has been a long-time partner in MotoGP and, while they are considering the possibility, it must align with their strategic goals. BMW already has a significant presence in the two-wheeled sport, including their involvement in World Superbikes, where they have signed the 2021 champion, Toprak Razgatlıoğlu. Flasch, who took over as CEO of BMW Motorrad last year, believes that motorsport plays a vital role in strengthening the brand and fostering enthusiasm among the brand community. With Suzuki exiting MotoGP after the 2022 season, it is crucial for Dorna to attract more manufacturers to the premier motorcycle racing series.
