BMW i5 Touring: carrinha elétrica com 560 km de automomia chega no verão

Power and functionality in “zero emissions” mode: BMW’s first 100% electric station wagon does not lose trunk capacity compared to thermal versions.

The BMW i5 presents itself as an alternative to the Mercedes EQE and Tesla Model S, but it will have a strong advantage in the family aspect with the launch of an unprecedented station wagon. The i5 Touring will arrive in Portugal in June, with prices starting at €79,000, requested for the eDrive 40 version, with an electric motor of 340 hp and a capacity battery of 81.2 kWh (usable), allowing for up to 560 km of autonomy.

At launch, there is also the i5 Touring M60 version, starting at €118,500, with two electric motors, one for each axle, all-wheel drive and a combined power of 601 hp, for a range of up to 506 km.

For this sportier variant of the electric station wagon, BMW announces an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

The model allows for fast charging up to 205 kW (only 10 minutes to add an additional 149 km to the BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring’s autonomy), with a “Max Range” mode that optimizes system performance and allows for a battery saving of about 25%.

More advantages in the trunk

The new generation of the BMW 5 Series Touring (G61) brings with it an unprecedented 100% electric version, but the news obviously does not end here. With sales scheduled to start in April, the new 5 Series wagon arrives with a renewed image, adopting the main elements of the style and the stylized grille of the sedan from which it derives, despite distancing itself from it, for example, in the format and design of the taillights, more recessed, and with the chrome strip in the shape of an L. Among the options are wheels up to 21 inches.

In the interior, the dashboard is also practically copied from the sedan. Series 5 and i5 share the Curved Display on the panels of modern BMWs, which combines the digital monitors of the instrumentation (12.3”) and the multimedia system (14.9”), which is equipped with AirConsole (video game platform). The standard version also comes with semi-automatic driving and parking systems, which can be combined with the M Sport Package, M Sport Pro Package, and M Carbon Exterior Package options.

With a length of 5.06 meters, a width of 1.90 meters, and a height of 1.52 meters, the new Touring is larger (10 cm), wider (3 cm), and taller (2 cm) than its predecessor, also announcing an increase in volume in the compartment to 570 liters (plus 10 liters), or 1700 liters with the folding of the second row. Measurements that place the Bavarian wagon slightly above the Audi A6 Avant (565 liters), but below the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Station (615 liters). The i5 Touring, with the battery pack stored in the floor, offers the same cargo capacity as the thermal versions.

In terms of the range, there is a 4-cylinder, 2-liter diesel engine, electrified with 48V hybrid systems to reduce consumption and exhaust gases: 520d (197 hp). In the second phase of the launch, there will be a more powerful diesel and two Plug-In hybrids (PHEV), with 289 hp and 489 hp, both capable of traveling up to 100 km in EV mode.
