The BMW Group and Tata Technologies have announced the creation of a joint venture with the aim of establishing a software development center in India.
In a statement, BMW clarifies that the new company will leverage Tata Technologies’ expertise in digital engineering and talent to contribute to the strategic expansion of the BMW Group, particularly in the development of software-defined vehicles (SDV) for future BMW models.
“Our collaboration with Tata Technologies will accelerate our progress in the field of software-defined vehicles. India has a large pool of talent with excellent software skills that can contribute to our software expertise,” emphasized Christoph Grote, Senior Vice President of Software at the BMW Group.
In addition, the new company will also provide software for autonomous driving, as well as for infotainment systems and digital services.
The BMW Group and Tata Technologies will each hold a 50% stake in the newly formed company, it added.
It is worth noting that BMW has had dedicated automotive software development teams for over two decades and in Portugal, it has a joint venture with Critical Software, called Critical TechWorks, which has engineering centers in Porto and Lisbon.
