On Monday, the Metropolitan Police announced that the carmine F512M, valued at approximately 350,000 pounds ($444,325.00), had been located within a four-day period. Ferrari had reported that this particular vehicle was being sold by a British broker to an American buyer. After police investigations, it was discovered that the car had been transported to Japan shortly after being stolen from Imola, Italy, and later arrived in Britain at the end of 2023.
The Vehicle Organized Crime Unit stated that their investigations are ongoing and so far no arrests have been made. Another Ferrari model, a silver F355 that belonged to Jean Alesi, Berger’s former teammate from France, was also stolen during the same weekend in Imola. Unfortunately, this car is still missing.
During the race in which Damon Hill from Williams emerged victorious, with Berger securing third place, Alesi finished in second place. This marked the last season for Ferrari drivers before the arrival of Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine.
Berger himself witnessed the thief attempting to steal his car. Despite his efforts to intervene by fleeing the scene and pursuing the culprit in a friend’s Volkswagen Golf, he was unable to prevent the car from escaping. (Reported by Alan Baldwin)
