Baker Mayfield’s Future with Tampa Bay Buccaneers

In a surprising turn of events, quarterback Baker Mayfield expressed his love for Tampa Bay as the team brings in Liam Coen as the new offensive coordinator. Mayfield’s comments came just a day after he discussed his considerations for free agency, with the recent departure of offensive coordinator Dave Canales playing a role in his decision-making process.

Mayfield, who can become a free agent in March, spoke highly of Tampa Bay, stating, “I love Tampa, I love everything about it.” He also acknowledged that the Buccaneers were the first team to give him a chance and expressed gratitude towards them.

During the 2023 season, Mayfield experienced a career resurgence with the Buccaneers, throwing for 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns with only 10 interceptions. Canales played a significant role in Mayfield’s success, but now Coen, who previously worked with Mayfield during their time with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022, brings a sense of familiarity to Tampa.

Coen’s potential reunion with Mayfield has sparked speculation about their future partnership in Tampa Bay. Sources have revealed that the Buccaneers are working on a deal to hire Coen as their new offensive coordinator, further fueling the anticipation surrounding Mayfield’s decision.

As the OC search continues for Tampa Bay, Mayfield remains focused on taking things one day at a time. The quarterback’s fondness for Tampa and the potential reunion with Coen make the Buccaneers a compelling option for Mayfield’s future. Fans will eagerly await the outcome of these developments as free agency approaches.

COEN SET TO JOIN TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS AS OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR

In an exciting development for Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans, it has been confirmed that Coen will be joining the team as their new offensive coordinator. Coen, who previously had two stints with the Rams and most recently served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Kentucky, is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the team.

During his time at Kentucky, Coen’s offensive strategies resulted in an impressive average of 29.1 points per game and 339.3 yards per game. This success came after the departure of record-setting quarterback Will Levis to the NFL, showcasing Coen’s ability to adapt and produce results.

Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield spoke highly of Coen, describing him as a “great guy” and expressing his excitement about the continuity that Coen’s system will bring to the team. Mayfield also acknowledged that Coen may have a different coaching style compared to previous offensive coordinator Canales, but emphasized that Coen’s leadership qualities will be a valuable asset to the Buccaneers.

Mayfield expects that Coen’s arrival will have a positive impact on contract negotiations, predicting that his own negotiations will pick up now that Coen’s deal is being finalized. Spotrac estimates that Mayfield could earn an annual salary of $27.1 million, or a four-year deal worth $108.5 million.

In addition to discussing business matters, Mayfield also had some fun during his time with the Buccaneers. He made an appearance during Buccaneers tackle Tristan Wirfs’ interview and shared a lighthearted moment with him. Mayfield and Wirfs are the only Pro Bowlers for the Buccaneers this season, and their camaraderie was evident as they joked about the Pro Bowl location in Orlando.

With Coen’s expertise and Mayfield’s enthusiasm, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are poised for an exciting future. Fans can look forward to a new offensive strategy and the potential for continued success under Coen’s leadership.
