Francesco Bagnaia from Ducati emerged victorious in the MotoGP sprint race at Mugello in dominant fashion, while Jorge Martin, the current championship leader, crashed with just four laps to go.
The Ducati factory duo, Bagnaia and Bastianini, had a strong start, taking the lead in the first corner. Meanwhile, Binder, who started 13th on the grid, gained an impressive nine positions to follow Martin from Pramac.
Martin quickly overtook Bastianini on the straight, reclaiming second place, with Marquez doing the same and passing Binder.
Unfortunately, Fabio Quartararo and Miguel Oliveira collided in the third sector on the second lap, effectively eliminating themselves from the race early on. Oliveira attempted a last-minute move on the current champion, but ended up crashing along with Quartararo.
Bastianini managed to overtake Martin at turn 1 on the third lap, but his attempt to regain the racing line resulted in a collision with Martin. Despite this incident, no further action was taken.
Meanwhile, Pedro Acosta, recently announced as a factory KTM rider, managed to overtake Binder, securing fourth place.
Marquez attempted a late braking maneuver to challenge Martin for second place at turn 1, but was unsuccessful on his first attempt. However, on the following lap, the eight-time champion found an opportunity on the inside line of the long straight and successfully passed the championship leader.
Joan Mir from Repsol Honda retired from the race with five laps to go, despite starting in a promising position in qualifying.
Unfortunately, Martin pushed his GP24 too hard in turn 1, causing him to crash out of the race while in third place with just four laps remaining.
Marquez managed to reduce the gap to leader Bagnaia, but couldn’t overtake him, securing a place on the podium.
Bagnaia’s victory in the Mugello sprint race reduced Martin’s championship lead to 27 points, while Marquez secured another podium finish on his one-year-old Gresini bike.
Acosta’s podium finish marked his second podium in the sprint race at the high-speed circuit, with Franco Morbelli from Pramac finishing in fourth place.
Maverick Vinales had a solid performance, finishing fifth as the top Aprilia rider, closely followed by Binder and Fabio Di Giannantonio.
Alex Marquez claimed eighth place, narrowly beating Aleix Espargaro in an exciting photo finish. Both riders finished a second ahead of Trackhouse’s Raul Fernandez.
Marco Bezzecchi finished in 11th place, but maintained a comfortable four-second gap to Jack Miller.
Alex Rins found himself between the two KTM riders, with Pol Espargaro finishing in 14th place, just ahead of lead Honda rider Johann Zarco.
Takaaki Nakagami had a respectable 16th place, making up for his disappointing qualifying performance. Both LCR riders finished comfortably ahead of Augusto Fernandez on the GasGas bike.
Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori finished second to last, with Luca Marini completing the classification in last place.
