The Automobile Association of Portugal (ACAP) revealed that car registrations in Portugal increased by 2.4% in May, compared to the same period in 2023, with 23,218 new vehicles registered.
In global terms, a total of 112,633 new vehicles were put into circulation between January and May, representing an 11% increase compared to the same period the previous year, according to ACAP data.
By categories, in May, 19,850 new passenger cars were registered in Portugal, representing a 0.2% increase compared to the same month the previous year.
In the first five months of 2024, passenger car registrations totaled 96,223 units, a positive variation of 9.2% compared to the same period in 2023.
The light commercial vehicle market saw a positive evolution in May with a 22.4% increase compared to the same month the previous year, reaching 2,747 registered units.
In cumulative terms, the market reached 13,372 units, a growth of 26.8% compared to the same period the previous year.
As for the heavy vehicle market, which includes passenger and commercial types, there was a 1.5% increase in May compared to the same month in 2023, with 621 vehicles of this category sold.
In the first five months of 2024, registrations in this category totaled 3038 units, representing an increase of 6.6% compared to the same period in 2023.
