Automobile market in Portugal grows 26.7% in February

The Portuguese Automobile Association (ACAP) revealed that car registrations in Portugal increased by 26.7% in February compared to the same period last year, with 23,454 new vehicles registered by the legal representatives of brands operating in the national market.

According to ACAP’s calculations, in the first two months of 2024, the market saw a growth of 17.5% compared to the same period last year, with 42,280 vehicles put into circulation.

By categories, in February, 20,511 new passenger cars were registered, representing an increase of 27.6% compared to the same month in 2023.

Thus, in the first two months of 2024, the registrations of passenger cars totaled 36,248 units, resulting in a positive variation of 18% compared to the same period last year.

As for the light commercial vehicles market, there was a positive evolution of 17.1% in February compared to the same month last year, with 2,385 units registered.

Overall, the market reached 4,748 units, representing an increase of 12.5% compared to the same period in 2023.    

Regarding the heavy vehicles market, which includes passenger and commercial types, there was an increase of 38.8% in February compared to the same month in 2023, with 558 vehicles of this category sold.

In the first two months of 2024, the registrations in this category totaled 1284 units, representing a market increase of 24.4% compared to the same period in 2023.
