Automobile market in Portugal grows 13.1% in the first quarter.

The Portuguese Automobile Association (ACAP) revealed that car registrations in Portugal increased by 13.1% in the first quarter of 2024, with 68,520 new vehicles registered, representing a 13.1% increase compared to the same period the previous year.

In March, the national automotive market saw a growth of 6.7% compared to the same period in 2023, with 26,240 vehicles put into circulation.

By categories, in the month, 22,796 new passenger cars were registered, which is 6.2% more than in the same month of 2023.

Thus, in the first three months of 2024, passenger car registrations totaled 59,044 units, resulting in a positive variation of 13.1% compared to the same period in 2023.

As for the light commercial vehicles market, in March there was a positive evolution of 17% compared to the same month of the previous year, with 2,843 units registered.

In cumulative terms, the market reached 7,591 units, representing a 14.1% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Regarding the heavy vehicles market, which includes passenger and commercial types, there was a 12.8% decrease in March compared to the same month in 2023, with 601 vehicles of this category sold.

In the first quarter of 2024, registrations of this category totaled 1,885 units, representing a 9.5% market increase compared to the same period in 2023.
