The Automobile Association of Portugal (ACAP) revealed this Tuesday that the national automobile market recorded a growth of 6.1% in September compared to the same month in 2023, with 18,054 new vehicles registered.
In total, from January to September 2024, 186,996 new motor vehicles were registered in Portugal, representing an increase of 4.6% compared to the same period in 2023.
By category, in September, the passenger car market, which has the largest share, saw 15,053 new cars registered, an increase of 6.9% compared to the same month in 2023.
Thus, from January to September 2024, registrations of passenger vehicles totaled 157,842 units, reflecting a positive change of 2.9% compared to the same period last year.
On the other hand, in the light commercial vehicle market, there was a negative evolution in the ninth month of 2024, with a decrease of 0.8% compared to the same month of the previous year, with 2,389 units sold.
In cumulative terms, the market reached 23,637 units, representing a 17% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Meanwhile, the heavy vehicle market, which includes both passenger and cargo types, recorded a 14.2% increase in September 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, with 612 vehicles sold in this category.
Between January and September, registrations in this category totaled 5,517 units, representing a market increase of 4.6% compared to the same period in 2023.
