Austin Hill Shatters NASCAR Legends’ Records: Triumphs at Superspeedways and Joins Tony Stewart’s Elite Ranks

In a stunning turn of events, Austin Hill, the Richard Childress Racing driver, has shattered the long-standing superspeedway record held by the iconic Earnhardt family. This monumental achievement has made Hill the new name to reckon with in NASCAR’s elite circle.

The Earnhardt family and superspeedways have a deeply intertwined history. Dale Earnhardt Sr. lost his life tragically in a crash at the Daytona Superspeedway in 2001 when his #3 Chevy hit the barriers. His son, Dale Earnhardt Jr., took up the mantle of his father’s legacy, winning a race at the same track in his memory a few months later, thereby transforming his victory into a poignant tribute.

With Junior’s retirement, his impressive record was set for a challenge, and Austin Hill rose to the occasion, breaking this record in spectacular fashion.

In the latest Xfinity race in Atlanta, Hill showcased his racing prowess, leading 146 out of 163 laps to secure his fifth trophy. He didn’t just dominate at his home track; he also shattered some revered records previously held by the Earnhardts.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has six victories at Talladega Superspeedway to his name, along with an impressive streak of four consecutive wins between 2001 and 2003. He also held the record for the most laps led at superspeedways in Xfinity Series history – 691, closely followed by his father Dale Sr. at 573. Now, all these records have been eclipsed by Austin Hill’s staggering tally of 692.

In the process, Hill has not only toppled the Earnhardt’s records but also surpassed the achievements of three-time Cup Series champion, Tony Stewart. According to NASCAR on NBC, Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Tony Stewart jointly held the record for the highest number of Xfinity Series wins on drafting tracks, each securing eight trophies at superspeedways.

Now, after securing the 2025 Bennett Transportation & Logistics 250 trophy, Hill’s name is added to this illustrious list. His fifth victory in Atlanta ties him with the 2014 Cup Series champion, Kevin Harvick, further consolidating his standing in the sport.

The Richard Childress Racing team’s winning streak doesn’t stop at Hill. Jesse Love, Hill’s teammate, took home the Daytona race win, marking a successful weekend for the team. Love also secured his third pole in as many Atlanta starts, while Hill swept both stages on the way to his resounding victory.

The triumph in Atlanta also marks the 99th Xfinity Series victory for the NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Childress’s team, further cementing their place in the sport’s annals.

A crucial factor in Hill’s victory was a timely push from fellow Chevrolet driver, Parker Retzlaff. In the concluding laps of the Atlanta race, Retzlaff’s strategic push allowed Hill to take the lead, helping him secure a narrow 0.216-second victory over Justin Allgaier, the Xfinity Series reigning champion.

In the face of such a close competition, Hill credited Retzlaff for his invaluable assistance. “Thank you to Parker Retzlaff for giving me that push, and then once I got clear and into [Turn] 1, I was just wide open and I was hoping they weren’t going to build up momentum,” Hill said.

Hill’s achievements over the weekend have earned him a place alongside several legendary NASCAR drivers. As he continues to rewrite history, we look forward to seeing what the future holds for this rising star in NASCAR.
