For more than two decades, Tim Cindric has been one of Team Penske’s most influential leaders, overseeing victories across NASCAR, IndyCar, and sports car racing. His impact has been undeniable, helping steer Penske to multiple championships in all three disciplines.

But now, with Tim Cindric stepping away from Penske’s NASCAR operations ahead of 2025, a major question looms: What does this mean for Austin Cindric?

The 26-year-old driver, who has been part of the Penske system for years, has struggled to find consistent success in the Cup Series. With his father no longer in a leadership role, will Austin have to fight harder to keep his seat at Penske?

Austin Cindric’s Cup Series Struggles: Is He Falling Behind?

Austin Cindric’s rise to the NASCAR Cup Series was fast-tracked after he dominated the 2020 Xfinity Series, securing the championship with six wins. That performance earned him a full-time Cup ride in 2022, taking over the No. 2 Ford Mustang—one of Penske’s most historic cars.

And his rookie season couldn’t have started better—he won the Daytona 500 in his first full-time year, immediately cementing his place in the history books.

But since then? The results have been underwhelming.

  • 2022: 1 win, 5 top-5s, 9 top-10s, 12th in final standings
  • 2023: 0 wins, missed playoffs, 21.1 average finish
  • 2024: 1 win, early playoff exit (Round of 12), 19.1 average finish

Compare that to his Penske teammates, and the gap is undeniable:

  • Ryan Blaney won the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series championship.
  • Joey Logano secured his third career title in 2024.
  • Austin Cindric? Still searching for consistent top-tier performances.

Does Tim Cindric’s Departure Put Austin’s Future at Risk?

NASCAR analysts and influencers, like Eric Estepp, believe Tim leaving NASCAR operations won’t directly impact Austin’s future at Penske.

But let’s be clear—Penske is not a team that tolerates mediocrity.

  • They have won three consecutive Cup Series championships.
  • Their expectation is to be title contenders every season.
  • Drivers are expected to perform at a high level—or they risk being replaced.

Austin’s current contract, signed in 2023, is set to expire in the next couple of years. If he doesn’t improve significantly in 2025, he may find himself searching for a new home in NASCAR.

2025: A Make-or-Break Season for Austin Cindric

Cindric has the talent—his Xfinity dominance and Daytona 500 victory prove that. But talent alone won’t be enough to keep his seat if he can’t consistently compete with Logano and Blaney.

With Penske’s winning culture, Austin Cindric must deliver in 2025—or risk being shown the door.

Will he rise to the challenge, or will 2025 mark the end of his tenure at one of NASCAR’s most dominant teams?
