Audi Strikes Gold: Seizes Alpine F1 Engine Partner, Revs Up Grand Prix Game

Audi Strikes Major Deal with Mecachrome for F1 Power Unit Supply

In a groundbreaking move, Audi has secured a deal with Mecachrome, the outgoing Alpine Formula 1 engine partner, to supply parts for its upcoming in-house power unit. This collaboration marks a significant shift in the motorsport landscape, with Mecachrome transitioning from supporting Alpine’s F1 power unit project to joining forces with Audi for their Grand Prix endeavor.

Mecachrome, known for its extensive motorsport activities ranging from Formula 2 to FIA WEC, faced a setback as Alpine decided to switch to a Mercedes-customer model in F1, leading to the conclusion of their partnership. This left Mecachrome with a void in its customer base, prompting the company to explore new opportunities.

The CEO of Mecachrome, Christian Cornille, expressed the challenges faced by the company following Alpine’s decision, stating, “These are decisions that have deeply affected our staff who worked in this sector and who were committed to motorsport.” However, the collaboration with Audi signifies a new chapter for Mecachrome, allowing them to continue their legacy in the realm of high-performance engines.

Audi’s foray into the F1 realm has been met with anticipation and excitement, as the German marque is diligently developing its power unit in Neuburg, Germany. The recent visit of Nico Hulkenberg to the Audi power unit facility left him impressed, highlighting the meticulous approach taken by the Audi team towards their 2026 power unit.

As Audi gears up to take over the Sauber squad, the partnership with Mecachrome signifies a strategic move to enhance their capabilities in the competitive world of Formula 1. The collaboration between these two industry giants is poised to reshape the dynamics of F1 power unit supply and propel Audi to new heights of success in the motorsport arena.

Stay tuned for more updates on Audi’s F1 engine development and the evolution of their partnership with Mecachrome as they pave the way for a thrilling future in Formula 1.
