The wait is almost over. Audi is gearing up to reveal the highly anticipated 2025 Q5, a premium compact crossover designed to take on the likes of BMW’s X3 and Mercedes’ GLC. Mark your calendars for September 2, when the four-ring brand will officially unveil its latest offering, poised to slot between the Q3 and Q7 in Audi’s lineup.
To build excitement, Audi has released a tantalizing teaser image. The glimpse shows the sleek new headlight on the left side, hinting at a more aggressive front design with a pointy, sizable grille, a sporty hood, and what appear to be side vents on the front bumper. While the teaser doesn’t give away much, it aligns with spy shots and renderings that have surfaced, giving us a good sense of what to expect.
Visually, the 2025 Q5 is expected to sport a larger central intake on the bumper, flanked by smaller side vents and thinner LED headlights. Audi’s signature grille will be more refined and less dominating, a subtle jab at BMW’s increasingly bold designs. The profile remains familiar, though the roofline is less arched, promising better rear headroom and a more spacious cargo area. The rear, still largely under wraps, hints at a higher license plate placement on the new tailgate.
Underneath, the new Q5 is built on Audi’s updated Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), an evolution of the MLB Evo architecture that underpinned the outgoing model. This platform is shared with the recently launched A5 lineup, suggesting that the Q5 will offer a range of powertrains similar to its sedan and estate siblings.
For the U.S. market, expect a lineup of gasoline engines, likely complemented by a selection of plug-in hybrids. European customers will have the option of diesel engines, possibly marking the last time Audi offers these low-revving powerplants in a new model.
As for body styles, Audi may initially unveil only the standard crossover, with the sportier, coupe-like Q5 Sportback potentially making its debut a few weeks or months later. Whether you’re a fan of the outgoing model or looking for something fresh, the 2025 Q5 promises to bring significant updates that could set a new benchmark in the segment.
