Verstappen initially built a comfortable lead after starting from pole position, but encountered balance issues with his RB20 car that allowed Norris to close in on him. Despite getting close enough to overtake, Norris was seven tenths of a second behind the finish line. Verstappen contested Norris’s claim that he needed more laps to overtake him, attributing his success to the rear wing setup that allowed him to excel in overtaking zones. Verstappen acknowledged Norris’s pressure but focused on maintaining his pace and avoiding mistakes, while taking advantage of the straight-line speed advantage provided by the rear wing. Verstappen also revealed that he had to be cautious with track limits, following his team’s instructions to leave an extra margin and avoid penalties. Despite the challenge of staying within the lines, Verstappen managed to defend his position and secure the victory.
