Apple announced last week that it has put an end to the project of producing an electric car, thus ending a decade of development work and a strong investment made by the company in the “Titan” project.
According to “The New York Times“, the company aimed to rival Tesla with an electric vehicle and at the same time with Waymo in autonomous vehicles.
To achieve this, Apple hired engineers from Porsche and NASA who worked on the project that passed through the hands of four different leaders and various visions, and according to “The New York Times” even considered acquiring Tesla, discussing the idea with Elon Musk.
The end of the electric car project, which according to the specialized publication in economic affairs, is said to have cost over €10 billion, now leads the 2000 employees involved in the development of Apple’s car to be transferred to the artificial intelligence division, where it is likely that some of the technology developed for the “Titan” project will be applied to other products of the American brand.
It is worth noting that Apple’s project termination comes at a time when there is a slowdown in the electric vehicle market and an increase in competition from traditional manufacturers.
