Appeals Panel Slashes NASCAR Penalties for Chris Buescher and RFK Racing – Redemption!

Chris Buescher and RFK Racing Roar Back After Appeals Panel Slashes NASCAR Penalties

After facing the wrath of hefty penalties from NASCAR for a violation during the recent AdventHealth 400 Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway, Chris Buescher and the No. 17 RFK Racing team have received a major reprieve. The original penalty stripped them of 60 owner and driver points, five playoff points, issued a $75,000 fine, and saw crew chief Scott Graves handed a two-race suspension, which has already been served.

However, the National Motorsports Appeals Panel has intervened, granting leniency by cutting the point penalty in half. This adjustment has catapulted Buescher from P24 to P16 in the championship standings as he gears up for the upcoming race at Nashville Superspeedway, the Cracker Barrel 400.

In a recent report by Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic, it was highlighted that the Appeals Panel decided to reduce the point penalty from 60 to 30 driver/owner points, keeping the other penalties intact. This modification has injected new life into Buescher’s campaign as he continues to chase his first win of the 2025 season, with his last victory dating back to September 15, 2024, at Watkins Glen International.

As Buescher sets his sights on the Cracker Barrel 400 scheduled for June 1, all eyes will be on the Prosper, Texas native to see if he can break his 21-race winless streak. The 300-lap event will be broadcasted on Amazon Prime Video starting at 7 pm ET, with exclusive radio coverage on PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Defending champion Joey Logano will be looking to defend his title at the 1.33-mile tri-oval intermediate speedway.

Following the Appeals Panel’s decision, RFK Racing released a statement expressing their gratitude for the reduction in penalties. They emphasized their commitment to complying with NASCAR’s regulations and shifted their focus towards putting up a strong performance at Nashville Superspeedway.

Looking back at Buescher’s track record at Nashville Superspeedway, his previous outing on June 30, 2024, resulted in a respectable P5 finish, marking his best performance at the Tennessee-based racetrack. As the anticipation builds for the Cracker Barrel 400, all eyes will be on Buescher and RFK Racing to see if they can capitalize on this second chance and make their mark in the upcoming race.
