AO Racing Set to Continue Roaring in 2025 IMSA with ‘Spike’ and ‘Rexy’

AO Racing, known for its playful yet competitive spirit, is gearing up for the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, confirming entries in both LMP2 and GTD PRO classes. The team, which has made waves this season with its iconic “Spike the dragon” and “Rexy the T-Rex” liveried cars, is eager to build on its 2024 success and continue its momentum into the new season.

The dynamic pairing of PJ Hyett and Paul-Loup Chatin has shone in the LMP2 class, securing four poles and one podium finish with their No. 99 ORECA. Meanwhile, “Rexy,” the No. 77 Porsche 911 GT3 R, has been a formidable force in the GTD PRO category, boasting three victories as Laurin Heinrich leads the standings heading into the finale at Petit Le Mans.

“It’s a little bit surreal to think that the 2024 season is almost over and that we head into Petit Le Mans leading the GTD PRO Championship,” said Gunnar Jeannette, AO Racing’s team principal. He praised the team’s hard work, which has led to impressive results in both classes. “We are looking forward to building on all of that work and rolling out at Daytona in 2025 with two cars that are capable of winning their class.”

“Spike, Rexy, and the Fans”

Beyond on-track performance, AO Racing has captured the hearts of fans of all ages, largely due to the creativity and fun associated with their car liveries and characters. Spike (the dragon) and Rexy (the T-Rex), along with the occasional appearance of Roxy (the pink dinosaur), have turned heads across the paddock, making AO Racing a fan favorite.

“The fans have really embraced Spike, Rexy, and Roxy this year, for which we are extremely grateful,” Jeannette remarked, acknowledging the team’s unique connection with families and young children. AO Racing’s gridwalks and paddock experiences have brought a fresh wave of excitement to the IMSA circuit, making them one of the most engaging teams on the grid.

As the team sets its sights on the 2025 season, fans can expect more fun, competition, and continued success from AO Racing. Driver lineups for the upcoming season will be confirmed at a later date.
