António Félix da Costa says goodbye, for now, to the World Endurance Championship (WEC). The 8 Hours of Bahrain will be his last race for Hertz Team JOTA behind the wheel of a Porsche 963 LMDh, as he will now focus on Formula E with the Stuttgart manufacturer.
The Portuguese driver, who competed in WEC since 2018 in LMGTE Pro, LMP2, and Hypercar, announced this end of the journey… also ensuring a future return to fight for overall victory in Le Mans: ‘I entered endurance racing in 2017 and since then, I have earned my place in this paddock. I started with BMW in GTs, then moved to LMP2, we won the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the World Championship, and this year I moved up to the top class, Hypercar. I always mentioned that my dream was to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans overall, unfortunately for now, this wish will have to stay on hold. It’s not a definitive goodbye, it’s a see you soon, I will return to fulfill this dream of mine. For now, I will focus on Formula E and fighting for the driver’s title and supporting Porsche 100% in this championship’.
Since 2019, Félix da Costa has been competing in WEC for JOTA Sport and did not forget the British team, stating: ‘For me, JOTA is more than a team, it is a group of friends, a true second family. I want to thank David Clarke and Sam Hignett for these fantastic years together, where besides winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans and a world championship, we also had great moments, and I am sure that we will meet again in the future. Now it’s time to enjoy this last race in Bahrain and fight to step on the podium with Hertz Team JOTA’.
