Antonio Felix da Costa triumphs in Jeddah E-Prix: Jaguar’s stunning 1-2 as Porsche falters

Antonio Felix da Costa Shatters Drought with Stunning Victory at Jeddah E-Prix!

In a thrilling display of strategy and skill, Jaguar Formula E's Antonio Felix da Costa has finally broken his long-standing victory drought, clinching a sensational win in the second leg of the Jeddah E-Prix. After a dry spell dating back to the 2024 Portland E-Prix, da Costa's triumph is a testament to both his racing acumen and the prowess of the Jaguar team.

Starting from a solid third position, da Costa executed a meticulous race strategy that would ultimately lead him to glory. The opening laps were a strategic chess game, with drivers like Edoardo Mortara, Sebastien Buemi, and Oliver Rowland jockeying for position. As the race progressed, it was clear that da Costa was biding his time, waiting for the perfect moment to unleash his Attack Mode.

The pivotal moment came on lap 18 when da Costa activated his first Attack Mode, having conserved more energy than his rivals. This tactical brilliance allowed him to surge forward, seizing the lead on lap 21 with a commanding 50kW power boost. By the time he depleted his extra energy, da Costa had built a formidable 3.5-second lead, mirroring the successful strategies of previous winners like Pascal Wehrlein.

Sebastien Buemi, driving for Envision, joined da Costa on the podium, finishing in a commendable second place for Jaguar-powered cars. Despite an aggressive energy strategy that saw him charging through the field, Buemi faced fierce competition from Rowland, who, after an unfortunate performance the previous day, staged an impressive comeback to secure third place.

Meanwhile, reigning champion Mortara struggled to maintain momentum, settling for a disappointing fourth after an ill-timed Attack Mode strategy left him with too much ground to cover in the latter stages of the race. Dan Ticktum exhibited a strong performance, finishing fifth, while Cupra Kiro's Pepe Marti impressed in sixth, despite a near-collision with Ticktum on the penultimate lap that could have derailed both drivers.

Porsche's woes continued as Friday's victor, Pascal Wehrlein, could only manage an eighth-place finish, highlighting the stark contrast between the two teams. Citroen's Jean-Eric Vergne and DS Penske's Taylor Barnard rounded out the points scorers, but not without their own struggles, as Nick Cassidy faced yet another disappointing race, marking his second non-scoring finish in just five outings.

This electrifying race in Jeddah not only revitalizes da Costa's championship hopes but also underscores the unpredictable nature of Formula E, where strategy and timing often prove to be just as crucial as sheer speed. As we look ahead, one thing is clear: Antonio Felix da Costa has reignited his career with a victory that will be talked about for seasons to come!
