Andretti reveals former F1 Technical Director Symonds as consultant.

Pat Symonds, a renowned figure in the technical sector, will join the Andretti Formula 1 project as Executive Engineering Consultant once his gardening leave period ends. Previously serving as Chief Technical Officer of F1 since 2018, Symonds recently stepped down as chassis regulations for 2026 were being finalized. Andretti, the American team aiming to enter the competition, confirmed Symonds’ involvement as they continue their plans. While the FIA accepted Andretti’s proposal last October, Formula One Management (FOM) did not give the green light due to competitiveness concerns. However, FOM expressed willingness to reconsider the entry in 2028 if General Motors becomes an engine manufacturer. Andretti has been actively recruiting, including hiring former Renault engineer Nick Chester as Technical Director and establishing a new base at Silverstone Park. Symonds, a former Williams engineer, will join Andretti on an undisclosed date. Michael Andretti, Global Chairman and CEO of Andretti, expressed excitement about Symonds’ addition and highlighted his expertise in aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, and Formula 1 power units. Symonds’ extensive experience, including involvement in the winning campaigns of Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso, will be valuable as Andretti seeks to build a competitive team. Technical Director Nick Chester praised Symonds’ knowledge and expects his contributions to benefit the team’s technical areas and overall operations.
