In a rain-soaked battle at Interlagos, McLaren’s dynamic duo, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, executed their team’s strategy to perfection, securing a valuable P6 and P8 in challenging conditions. Team principal Andrea Stella applauded the pair for staying focused and delivering on the team’s objective in a race that put their skills—and patience—to the test.

Facing a track notorious for upending race plans, McLaren laid down a simple yet crucial order: “Finish the race.” Stella emphasized the importance of caution on the slippery circuit, especially as the team races toward its first constructors’ title in over 25 years. “It’s easy to have a problem that takes you out of the race, and it’s a DNF and zero points. Considering what we’re fighting for at the moment, we wanted to avoid that, and I want to praise both drivers for achieving this objective,” Stella remarked.

Norris and Piastri’s teamwork in Brazil follows a season marked by on-track competitiveness, with both drivers contributing to McLaren’s 593-point total. Despite internal rivalry, the pair maintained professionalism at Interlagos, adhering to team orders to avoid risky moves. McLaren’s strategy paid off, allowing them to retain a 37-point lead over Ferrari in the constructors’ standings.

However, the race revealed performance issues with McLaren’s MCL38 in wet conditions. The team introduced a new rear wing in Brazil to enhance pace and downforce, but the upgrade fell short in the intense rain. “Top speed didn’t seem great, but I don’t think that was our biggest problem,” Piastri noted. “We were gaining in the corners with the downforce, but not enough. We need to understand a bit better—both cars seemed to struggle a lot more in the second half of the race.”

Piastri, a rising star with many tipping him as a future world champion, has proven his commitment and adaptability in just two seasons with McLaren. Now, with only a few races left, he and Norris are focused on preserving McLaren’s lead and sealing the title in what could be a historic season for the Papaya team.

As the season heads into its final stretch, McLaren’s consistency, adaptability, and driver synergy could be the formula that brings them championship glory, adding a new chapter to their storied legacy in Formula 1.
