Andrea Kimi Antonelli feels fortunate to witness Lewis Hamilton’s incredible victory at Silverstone.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli is a strong contender to replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes starting in 2025. The F2 Prema Racing driver is currently enjoying his time with Mercedes and is expected to don the team’s black gear in the future. Throughout this season, Antonelli has been closely observing the happenings at the Brackley-based outfit.

Lewis Hamilton’s victory at the British Grand Prix marked a significant moment in his career, ending a 945-day winless streak. The Mercedes team was overjoyed with their seven-time world champion’s triumph, and this moment was particularly memorable for Andrea Kimi Antonelli. As a 17-year-old, Antonelli greatly admires Hamilton and considers him an inspiration in Formula 1.

Antonelli’s reaction to Hamilton’s victory clearly indicates the surreal nature of the moment for him. If he does secure Hamilton’s seat in 2025, the Italian will be highly motivated to perform at his best and fill the shoes of the British racing legend. While Antonelli has shared his experience with Mercedes at the British GP, he has also mentioned his relationship with George Russell. Although they haven’t spent much time together, Antonelli regards Russell as an exceptional driver.

From the 2025 F1 season onwards, George Russell will become the de-facto team leader at Mercedes. Since joining the team in 2022, Russell has established himself as one of the top drivers on the current grid. Antonelli sees Russell as a formidable benchmark, should he secure the coveted Mercedes seat. Rumors suggest that an announcement regarding Antonelli’s move to Mercedes may be imminent.
