André Lotterer Teases Future Beyond Porsche’s Factory Team: ‘It Can Be Exciting’”

Veteran endurance driver André Lotterer may be on the brink of a new chapter as he eyes opportunities beyond Porsche’s factory squad. After more than a decade with Porsche and a successful career that includes three Le Mans victories with Audi, Lotterer is hinting at a shift, even as he and his Porsche teammates Kevin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor close in on a possible drivers’ championship win this weekend.

Reflecting on his career’s crossroads, Lotterer shared: “If you think, okay, the news comes out and I’m not going to be with the team, you think, ‘What will I do?’ Obviously, I’ve been with Porsche a long time, so the loyalty is there to stay together and do other projects.”

This loyalty, however, doesn’t restrict Lotterer to one path. He is leaving his options open, exploring everything from racing with Porsche’s customer teams like Proton Competition, to potentially racing GTs, or even considering an ambassador role. “It can be exciting,” Lotterer explained. “We need to see and understand what’s possible to do, whether it’s racing for a Porsche 963 customer team or in GTs, or taking an ambassador role, or something completely different.”

Although Lotterer’s experience is rooted deeply in prototypes, having raced Super GT and Super Formula in Japan as well as the World Endurance Championship (WEC), his interests in future races seem selective. He distinguished Japanese Super GT from global GT racing, emphasizing that Super GT is “more like prototypes than GTs,” with its heightened downforce and speed. While the idea of racing in GT3 categories is not off the table, Lotterer admitted, “I don’t have much experience in GT3s, and it’s not something I’ve been focusing on.”

For now, Lotterer’s energy remains directed at the WEC season finale, with both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles within reach. Porsche currently leads Toyota by 10 points in the manufacturers’ championship. “At the moment, I’m going to focus on this race. I’ll give it some time afterward and then decide what I really want to do,” Lotterer concluded, adding a hopeful smile that hinted at his excitement for the journey ahead.

While fans and teams wait for his decision, one thing is clear: wherever Lotterer goes next, it’s bound to add another thrilling chapter to his impressive career.
