In a shocking turn of events, Flavio Briatore, the Alpine executive advisor, has made a stunning denial regarding Franco Colapinto’s contract status, completely flipping the narrative surrounding the young Argentine driver’s future with the team. Despite initial speculation that Colapinto would only be given a limited number of races to prove himself, Briatore now suggests that Colapinto could be a permanent fixture in the Alpine lineup, defying all expectations.

Following Colapinto’s disappointing debut at the Imola Grand Prix, where he crashed out during qualifying and finished a disappointing 16th in the race, questions arose about the length of his contract with Alpine. Initially believed to be a mere five-race trial period, Briatore has now declared that there is no set limit on Colapinto’s races, emphasizing that his performance on track will be the ultimate decider of his future with the team.

Moreover, the sudden departure of Jack Doohan from Alpine, who was replaced by Colapinto, has stirred controversy within the F1 community. The decision to swap Doohan for Colapinto, especially considering Doohan’s father, racing legend Mick Doohan’s vocal criticism of the move on social media, has raised eyebrows about Alpine’s strategic choices and management decisions.

With Alpine facing a turbulent period, including the resignation of team principal Oliver Oakes and Briatore stepping into a more prominent role within the team, the pressure is on for Colapinto to deliver strong performances and secure his spot on the grid for the long haul. As Briatore himself puts it, “He needs to be fast, not crash, and score points. If he does them well, he will drive forever.”

As the drama unfolds at Alpine, all eyes will be on Colapinto as he navigates the challenges of the F1 circuit and fights to establish himself as a permanent fixture in the competitive world of Formula 1.
