Alpine’s Astonishing Transformation in F1: From Last to Fourth on Bahrain GP Starting Grid

Alpine has shocked the Formula 1 world with a remarkable turnaround, going from the back of the grid to a top-four position in the qualifying session for the 2025 Bahrain Grand Prix. Pierre Gasly, the driver behind the wheel, expressed his surprise at the team’s performance, stating, “I knew after my last corner this lap would put me in a very good place, but nowhere near close thinking it would put us like four hundredths off the top three and only three tenths off pole position.”

The team’s journey to this impressive feat is a stark contrast to their struggles at the 2024 Bahrain GP, where they found themselves at the back row during qualifying. Following a series of technical restructures and strategic personnel changes, including the recruitment of key figures like David Sanchez and Flavio Briatore, Alpine has seen a significant improvement in their performance.

One of the most significant changes made was the decision to switch to a Mercedes power unit from 2026 onwards, a move that has already shown promising results. Observers in the F1 paddock have noted the improved speed and agility of the Alpine car, especially through certain corners where it rivals top competitors like McLaren.

Despite the progress, challenges remain, particularly concerning the efficiency of the Renault power unit. The team has had to make adjustments to compensate for the hybrid system’s limitations, focusing on aerodynamic enhancements to maximize speed on the straights. With continuous fine-tuning and optimization, Alpine aims to further elevate its performance on the track.

Pierre Gasly’s impressive qualifying performance in Bahrain reflects the team’s dedication to improvement and innovation. As he navigates the demanding circuit with precision and control, Gasly acknowledges the team’s progress, noting, “There are great things happening in the team, we just need to make sure it keeps going and use that as much as we can for next season as well.”

Alpine’s journey from obscurity to the top ranks of Formula 1 serves as a testament to the team’s resilience and determination. With a newfound competitive edge and a relentless drive for success, Alpine is poised to make a lasting impact on the world of motorsport.
