Rookie Racer Colapinto Faces Pressure as Briatore Emphasizes Performance Over Everything

In a thrilling turn of events, Franco Colapinto’s debut with Alpine started with a dramatic crash during qualifying, leaving him with zero points on the board. The notorious Flavio Briatore has sternly stated that only performance will be the deciding factor as Alpine evaluates their driver lineup, hinting at a possible race-by-race review process.

After the Miami Grand Prix, it was announced that Colapinto would be taking over Jack Doohan’s spot for the next five races. Doohan, who failed to secure any points in his six races, had to step aside to make room for the promising talent of Colapinto. Briatore expressed the importance of exploring different options with an eye on the F1 2026 championship, setting the stage for a high-stakes competition within the team.

Despite Colapinto’s crash in qualifying at the Tamburello chicane, where he collided with the barrier, the Argentinean driver has shown flashes of speed mixed with a tendency for accidents. While his lap time was initially fast enough to advance to Q2, the crash ended his session prematurely, resulting in a disappointing 16th place on the grid with a one-place penalty added for breaching red-flag regulations. The Grand Prix saw Colapinto struggle to make an impact, finishing in P16.

Briatore’s mixed messages of a five-race commitment alongside hints of a race-by-race evaluation have added to the intensity surrounding Colapinto’s future with Alpine. The Italian team advisor emphasized that Colapinto’s tenure will depend solely on his performance, stating that as long as he is fast, avoids crashes, and scores points, his position in the team is secure. Briatore’s tough-love approach aims to push Colapinto to deliver consistent results and prove his worth on the track.

With the possibility of Colapinto’s stint extending beyond the initial five races, the pressure is on for the young driver to showcase his skills and adaptability. Briatore’s focus on the team’s overall performance hints at the competitive nature of the F1 landscape, where every point matters in the quest for success.

As the spotlight shines on Colapinto’s journey with Alpine, the racing world awaits eagerly to see if the rookie racer can rise to the challenge and secure his spot in the fiercely competitive world of Formula 1.
