Alpine’s Future in Jeopardy: Ex-F1 Star Predicts Shock Replacement for Struggling Colapinto

Young F1 Driver’s Seat at Alpine Already in Jeopardy: Former Racer Suggests Shock Replacement

Is Franco Colapinto’s position at Alpine already at risk after just joining the team? According to a former Formula 1 star, the Argentine driver might be facing a threat to his seat despite only recently debuting with the team. Colapinto took over Jack Doohan’s spot earlier this month due to Doohan’s poor performance at the start of the 2025 season, where he failed to score any points. The decision to replace Doohan with Colapinto was expected, with Colapinto being given a limited timeframe of five races to prove himself, although team advisor Flavio Briatore has since denied this claim.

During his first race at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix last weekend, Colapinto had a challenging day, finishing 16th after a massive crash during qualifying. Former F1 racer Timo Glock has suggested that Mick Schumacher would be a better alternative if Colapinto fails to deliver. Glock mentioned that Schumacher, who currently competes for Alpine in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), has more experience and is a strong candidate for the position. Schumacher, the son of legendary seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, has expressed his desire to return to the F1 grid in the future.

After winning the F2 championship, Schumacher struggled during his two-year stint at Haas before being dropped in 2022. He then served as a backup driver for Mercedes alongside Lewis Hamilton and George Russell for two seasons before stepping down from that role at the end of the last season. Speculations suggest that Schumacher could potentially fill one of the two vacant spots at Cadillac, a new team set to enter F1 in 2026. Will we witness the return of Mick Schumacher to Formula 1? Fans are eager to find out as the drama unfolds in the world of motorsport.
