Alpine shatters pre-season records with over 1000 laps: Gasly leads charge for 2026!

Alpine F1 Team Shakes Up Pre-Season with Stellar Performance and Over 1000 Laps Completed!

In a stunning display of speed and resilience, the Alpine F1 Team has wrapped up their pre-season testing for 2026 on a high note, leaving fans buzzing with excitement! Pierre Gasly, the French racing sensation, finished the Bahrain test with a remarkable fifth-place time, clocking in at an impressive 1m33.421s and racking up a staggering total of 118 laps around the Bahrain International Circuit. This amounts to an astonishing 639 kilometers in just one day!

What’s more, Alpine's preparation has been nothing short of extraordinary! Across three different circuits—Silverstone, Barcelona, and Bahrain—the team has amassed over 1000 laps, a feat rarely seen this early in the season. This unprecedented level of mileage has set the stage for a promising 2026 season, as the team aims to capitalize on their efforts.

A Bold New Era with Mercedes Power

After a challenging 2025 season, where the team faced difficulties due to a halt in development, Alpine has made a game-changing decision to shift to a Mercedes engine, abandoning its historical self-developed power units. This strategic move is already showing signs of success, with internal assessments labeling the new A526 car as “much better” and reporting significant gains from the new power unit.

Gasly emphasized the uniqueness of this pre-season preparation, having already completed four and a half days of real track time with the new car—far exceeding the usual one and a half days seen in previous seasons. This extensive testing is crucial for understanding the technical package, although he acknowledges that there are still “various areas” that require improvement to unlock even more performance.

A Positive Outlook from Alpine's Leadership

Steve Nielsen, the team's managing director, praised the productive testing program, noting that Alpine has met milestones weeks earlier than usual. He expressed confidence that the team now possesses a “reasonable package” and a solid foundation for the upcoming races. Nielsen cautioned, however, that it will only be during the Australian Grand Prix that the true competitive standing of the team will be revealed.

Furthermore, Nielsen lauded the collaboration with Brixworth, the powerhouse behind Mercedes-AMG engines, and commended the contributions of both Gasly and Franco Colapinto in executing testing plans and gathering vital data. He affirmed that both drivers share the team's ambition to consistently vie for points and challenge for positions within the middle of the pack throughout the 2026 season.

As the world of Formula 1 gears up for the new season, all eyes will undoubtedly be on Alpine as they strive to transform their pre-season promise into tangible success on the racetrack. Will the combination of extensive testing and a powerful new engine propel them to the front? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: the excitement surrounding Alpine's 2026 campaign is palpable and growing by the minute!
