Alpine’s Racers and New A290 EV Hot Hatch Spearheading Brand’s Goodwood Presence

The Alpine A290, the hot hatch version of the Renault 5 E-Tech, made its world premiere at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last month. Now, it is heading to Goodwood to take on the Hillclimb. Equipped with a single electric motor that powers the front wheels, this model produces an impressive 217 horsepower (220 ps/162 kW) and 221 pound-foot (300 Nm) of torque.

The GT Performance variant of the Alpine A290 is the most powerful, offering a significant boost compared to the standard Renault 5 E-Tech. The standard model has 148 hp (150 ps/110 kW) in its top form. Additionally, Alpine offers the A290 in the GT grade, which boasts 177 hp (180 ps/132 kW) and 210 lb-ft (285 Nm) of torque. The GT Performance version can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 kph) in just 6.4 seconds, one second faster than the GT grade.

Both versions of this electric hot hatch share the same battery pack as the upper specs Renault 5 E-Tech. This 52 kWh unit allows for a driving range of 236 miles (380 km), slightly less than the new 5 E-Tech’s 249 miles (400 km). In comparison, the MINI Cooper E, a rival to the Renault 5 E-Tech, has a smaller battery pack and a range of 190 miles (306 km). Recharging the battery from 15% to 80% takes only 30 minutes when using a 100 kW charger.

In addition to the Alpine A290, other Alpine models will be showcased at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The aero-optimized A110 Pikes Peak racer, featuring 500 horsepower (507 ps/373 kW), will be present. The Alpenglow Concept, with its lightweight carbon body, will be displayed as well. On the Hillclimb, the 1975 A110 Group 4 Tour de Corse rally car will be demonstrated.

The motorsport lineup from Alpine will also include the BWT Alpine F1 Team showcar, which will be dynamically demonstrated by F1 reserve driver Jack Doohan, F2 racer Kush Maini, and F3 racer Sophia Floersch. Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to test their skills on the Alpine simulator. They will also get a sneak peek of the upcoming Atelier Alpine, where customers can choose from 26 new colors for the modern-day A110, inspired by the brand’s historic vehicles, along with various wheels and brake calipers in exclusive hues. Will you be visiting Alpine at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed?
