Alpine launches revolutionary era with Mercedes engines: Gasly and Colapinto ready to conquer Melbourne

A New Era Unleashed: Alpine's Bold Move with Mercedes Engines at the 2026 Australian Grand Prix!

Get ready, Formula 1 fans! The 2026 season is about to kick off in spectacular fashion at the iconic Australian Grand Prix, and Alpine Racing is set to make waves like never before. This isn't just another race; it's a monumental shift in the motorsport landscape as Alpine bids farewell to Renault and embraces the power of Mercedes engines for the very first time.

After a dismal showing in 2025 where Alpine finished at the bottom of the Constructors' Championship, the stakes couldn’t be higher. With a multi-year contract signed with Mercedes, the French team is determined to flip the script and return to the competitive fray. Pierre Gasly, Alpine's ace driver, is brimming with excitement as he gears up for the season opener in Melbourne. “I’m thrilled to be heading to Melbourne for the start of the new Formula 1 season and racing for the first time with the new regulations,” Gasly declared, showcasing his eagerness to tackle the challenges ahead.

The 2026 regulations introduce revolutionary changes to the cars, and Gasly acknowledges the drastic transformation: “The cars are completely different from what I've driven throughout my career. It’s been an exhilarating challenge to get the most out of the new power units, active aerodynamics, and Boost and Overtake modes.” His confidence stems from promising results during preseason tests in Barcelona and Bahrain, where the team showcased notable improvements.

But the real test awaits at Albert Park, a circuit known for its unpredictable weather and unique challenges. “The tracks we’ve raced on so far are quite different, with Barcelona’s medium-speed corners and Bahrain’s intense braking zones. Albert Park’s fluid nature will be a fascinating test for the new cars,” Gasly commented, knowing that every twist and turn will demand peak performance from both him and the machine.

Meanwhile, the spotlight also shines on newcomer Franco Colapinto, who is ready to make his official debut as a full-time F1 driver. After stepping in for Logan Sargeant at Williams and later taking over from Jake Doohan at Alpine, Colapinto is poised to make a significant impact. “I can’t wait to hit the track in Melbourne and kick off the race season. This is my third year in F1, but it’s my first time preparing for the season opener with preseason tests,” he expressed eagerly.

Colapinto has been sharpening his skills and analyzing crucial data alongside his team at Enstone. “We’ve had positive tests in Barcelona and Bahrain, and every session brings us closer to understanding these new vehicles,” he said. With experience from F2 and F3 under his belt, he recognizes the speed and challenges of the Albert Park circuit. “It’s a fast track, and I expect a thrilling challenge for this new generation of F1 cars,” he added, ready to push the limits.

As the engines roar to life and the lights go out this Friday, the world will be watching closely. Will Alpine’s bold leap into the Mercedes era yield the results they desperately need? The 2026 Australian Grand Prix promises to be a thrilling spectacle as rookie and veteran alike chase glory in a sport that’s changing before our very eyes. Buckle up, F1 fans; this season is set to be a game-changer!
