Alpine F1 Team Shakeup Sparks Controversy as Pierre Gasly’s Future Hangs in the Balance

In a shocking move that has sent shockwaves through the Formula 1 community, Alpine made the bold decision to replace one of their drivers, Jack Doohan, after just six races into the season. The unexpected replacement has been met with criticism, with ex-Formula 1 star Juan Pablo Montoya branding the team’s decision as ‘unacceptable’.

Following the Miami Grand Prix, Doohan was swiftly axed from the team, making way for Franco Colapinto to showcase his skills in the upcoming races. Doohan, who has been demoted to the reserve driver role, expressed his disappointment in a statement, highlighting the abrupt nature of the decision.

Montoya weighed in on the controversy, expressing his disapproval of Alpine’s handling of the situation. He stated, “What’s unacceptable from a driver’s point of view, you committed to Jack Doohan and thought he was the best choice – Alpine gave him a contract.” The former Williams racer criticized the team’s decision-making process and suggested a fairer evaluation period for all drivers involved.

Moreover, Montoya raised concerns about Pierre Gasly’s future with the team, questioning whether the French driver is at risk of losing his seat if Colapinto outperforms him. Gasly, who has struggled to make an impact this season with only seven points to his name, faces mounting pressure to prove his worth amidst the team’s restructuring.

Colapinto, who previously impressed during his stint at Williams last season, now has the opportunity to solidify his place in the Alpine lineup. With the team languishing near the bottom of the constructors’ standings, the decision to shake up the driver lineup reflects a desperate bid for improvement.

In addition to the driver changes, Alpine also saw team principal Oliver Oakes step down from his role, leaving Flavio Briatore in charge for the upcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The sudden upheaval within the Enstone-based outfit has left fans and pundits alike speculating on the team’s future direction.

As the F1 season unfolds, all eyes will be on Alpine to see how the new driver lineup and leadership changes will impact their performance on the track. The looming question of Gasly’s future adds an extra layer of intrigue to an already tumultuous season in the world of Formula 1.
