Alpine F1 Boss Oakes Plans to Close Gap to Formula 1’s Top Teams

As the 2025 Formula 1 season revs up, Oliver Oakes, the team chief of Alpine F1, candidly acknowledges the uphill battle that lies ahead in their quest to narrow the gap to the sport’s frontrunners. The Enstone-based unit finds itself in a race against time and technology, a race that Oakes admits, isn’t for the faint-hearted.

“There’s a definite challenge,” Oakes states, underlining the degree of difficulty that the current regulations present. “Some teams have already managed to break through and take the lead. McLaren, for instance, made a significant leap forward, and so did Aston Martin, although they’ve slipped a bit recently.”

Oakes’ frankness underscores the relentless and ever-evolving nature of Formula 1 racing. Teams are in a constant tussle, not just on the racetrack, but also in their respective technological labs, striving to gain that extra edge.

Despite the odds, Oakes remains hopeful and steadfast in his resolution. “We are always optimistic about inching closer to the top,” he says, exuding a defiant spirit. “But more importantly, we want to do a good job.” His words echo the determination and grit that define the heart of any true competitor.

That said, Oakes is not one to shy away from expressing his impatience. “It’s always about pushing for speed, always about being faster,” he says, his impatience mirroring the fast-paced world of Formula 1.

As we strap in for the 2025 Formula 1 season, all eyes will be on Alpine F1 and their relentless pursuit of speed. Will they bridge the gap or will the competition zoom past? Only time, and the checkered flag, will tell.
