Rumors Swirling Around Alpine F1 Team: Driver Swap Debunked

In a whirlwind of speculation, the Alpine F1 team found themselves at the center of rumors suggesting a driver swap between Jack Doohan and reserve driver Franco Colapinto for the upcoming Imola Grand Prix. The murmurs gained traction after an offhand comment by YPF CEO, Horacio Marín – Colapinto’s sponsor – hinted at the Argentine making his debut at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.

However, Team Principal of Alpine, Oliver Oakes, swiftly shut down these rumors during the Miami Grand Prix team principals’ press conference. Oakes dismissed the claims as mere “noise,” affirming that Doohan will indeed be racing alongside Pierre Gasly in Imola. While acknowledging the swirling speculations, Oakes made it clear that there would be no changes to the current driver lineup.

Despite the clarity provided by Oakes, Doohan faced a challenging Sprint Qualifying session in Miami, where he was knocked out in SQ1 and will start from 17th on the grid due to a pit lane error involving traffic and a delayed release alongside his teammate Gasly.

The rollercoaster of rumors and on-track challenges sets the stage for an intense showdown at the upcoming Imola Grand Prix, where all eyes will be on the Alpine F1 team and their drivers.
