Fernando Alonso Praises Max Verstappen’s Remarkable Performance in F1 2025

In a thrilling turn of events in the Formula 1 2025 season, Max Verstappen’s incredible skill and determination have caught the attention of racing legend Fernando Alonso. The two-time world champion made a striking comparison between this year’s championship battle and his own experiences back in 2012.

Verstappen’s recent victory at Suzuka against the McLaren duo has positioned him as the main contender to disrupt their dominance this season. With only one point behind Lando Norris in the standings, Verstappen is proving to be a formidable force against the technical prowess of the Woking-based team.

Drawing from his extensive career spanning over 400 Grand Prix races, Alonso couldn’t help but see parallels between Verstappen’s current campaign and his own unforgettable 2012 season. The Spaniard recalled, “Max? He no longer surprises us because we know how talented he is. He’s doing something incredible by keeping the championship alive. I think he’s just a point behind Norris. This reminds me a bit of 2012: with the third or fourth-fastest car, you manage to keep the championship alive. I hope he can keep it alive until the last race.”

Alonso’s reference to 2012 is significant as he reflects on the season where he, like Verstappen now, defied the odds with Ferrari against Sebastian Vettel’s dominant Red Bull. Despite the Ferrari not matching the pace of the Red Bull, Alonso fought valiantly, finishing a close second in the championship, just three points shy of the title, in a thrilling finale in Brazil.

As the 2025 season unfolds, Verstappen appears determined to emulate Alonso’s heroic efforts from 2012, potentially scripting a different ending to his own championship quest. The parallels between these two eras in Formula 1 only serve to intensify the excitement and drama on the track, setting the stage for a fiercely contested battle to the finish line.
