Fernando Alonso Blasts Modern F1 Drivers as ‘Too Polite’ Compared to Senna and Prost Era

Former F1 champion Fernando Alonso has thrown shade at today’s drivers, labeling them as ‘too nice’ when addressing issues in the sport, unlike the fierce Ayrton Senna or Alain Prost from the past.

Alonso’s criticism comes in the wake of the controversial Monaco GP, where discussions on the race’s future have been rampant. The two-stop race rule in Monaco has triggered debates on potential modifications to the track layout to enhance overtaking opportunities.

In a fiery statement, Alonso expressed his frustration, “Max [Verstappen] spoke about this because you asked Max about Monaco, but all we hear is negativity instead of positivity. Back in the days of Senna and Prost, they wouldn’t have sugar-coated their opinions like we do now.”

The Spaniard emphasized the lack of aggressive racing in Monaco, stating, “You see one overtake every 10 years, but this is the nature of Monaco.” Despite calls for changes, Alonso believes there is already sufficient content in F1 and implied that drivers are too accommodating in their responses.

Alonso’s remarks have ignited a debate in the F1 community, with fans and experts weighing in on whether modern drivers should adopt a more confrontational approach akin to the legends of the past.

As the sport continues to evolve, Alonso’s bold comments serve as a stark reminder of the contrasting attitudes between today’s drivers and the fearless icons of bygone eras.
