Alonso asks Aston Martin to keep a low profile amid their ongoing decline. Fernando Alonso stated that Aston Martin must now cease their verbal communication and start performing, as the team continues to struggle in the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix. Alonso had a disastrous race in his home country last weekend, qualifying in 11th place and lacking the necessary speed during the race, finishing in a distant 12th position. Aston Martin’s lack of points in the race supports Alonso’s previous statement in Monaco, where he warned that the team seemed to be regressing towards the midfield. The Spanish driver was never in contention to increase his score in Barcelona, as excessive tire degradation issues left him vulnerable throughout the race. Alonso expressed his disappointment, acknowledging that the team’s lack of speed during the weekend meant they did not deserve to score points. He highlighted the difficulties faced during the race, including excessive sliding in the corners that further contributed to tire wear. Alonso emphasized the need for improvement in the future. In the last five races, Alonso has only finished in the points once, and he predicts that Aston Martin’s AMR24 will face challenges in the upcoming stages as well. Despite his positive stance after qualifying, Alonso now states that the team must focus and work in silence. He acknowledges the frustration but recognizes that there is nothing they can do at the moment. Instead, they must focus on the next race in Austria and consider what they can do differently. Alonso predicts that the upcoming races in Austria and Silverstone will also be challenging for the team. He emphasizes the need to avoid excessive frustrations and instead work more and speak less, with the goal of delivering better results. The updates introduced by Aston Martin in Imola did not bring the expected improvements and made the car more difficult to drive compared to the initial version. Alonso asks the team to avoid generating expectations and making promises about future updates. He emphasizes the importance of ensuring that any developments they bring to the track meet expectations and contribute to their progress. Alonso, as a driver, does not have the technical expertise to explain why the updates did not align with the team’s simulations.
