Alonso: Melhorias da Aston Martin em Imola não resolverão falhas da F1

Mechanics are preparing the Aston Martin F1 Team AMR24 for the next Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Fernando Alonso acknowledged that the latest updates from Aston Martin will not address the deficiencies of his 2024 Formula 1 car. In response to Alonso’s desire for a more aggressive development approach, Aston Martin will introduce additional updates to the AMR24 in Imola. However, despite their efforts, the team continues to lag behind the leading group that has pulled away from the rest of the pack in the early races of 2024. Alonso revealed that the progress made will be “significantly less than reported by the Spanish media.” He believes it will still be a positive step, similar to previous races in Bahrain, Jeddah, Australia, and Japan, with some improvements in Miami. Aston Martin has been consistently introducing new parts throughout the season, and Imola will be no different. Whether these updates will result in better lap times compared to other teams remains to be seen. With three free practice sessions in Imola, the team has enough time to optimize their new package and setup. Alonso does not see this race as different from the others, as there will be more updates in Monaco, Canada, and Barcelona. He acknowledges that the journey ahead is long and progress will be made throughout the year. Alonso denies that the improvements were specifically designed to address the race pace issues that have left Aston Martin behind after promising starts. He also notes that the updates introduced this season have performed as expected, but emphasizes the challenge of making progress when competitors are also improving. When asked if the updates in Imola will help address the car’s weaknesses, Alonso responds negatively, stating that they only provide additional performance, increased downforce, and reduced drag for better lap times. Although each update has been correlated with wind tunnel data and improved the car’s performance, it is a relative gain compared to the entire grid. If Aston Martin gains half a second, but the rest of the grid gains two tenths, they will still be one and a half tenths behind from the previous weekend. Alonso emphasizes the need for consistent progress throughout the season, rather than relying on a major update and hoping for results. He believes that addressing the weaknesses and balance issues of the car requires a more specific and yet to be implemented design.
