Alonso conquista vitória completa na corrida de Moto3 em COTA

David Alonso shone in an impressive performance as he smoothly sailed to victory in the Moto3 support race at Circuit of the Americas. Alonso took the lead early on and faced no challenges as a fierce battle unfolded behind him, resulting in Daniel Holgado and Angel Piqueras securing second and third place, respectively.

The race started with a collision between Filippo Farioli of Sic58 Squadra Corse and Joshua Whatley of MLav Racing at Turn 1, forcing Farioli to retire early. Meanwhile, Stefano Nepa and Ivan Ortola collided at Turn 15 on the first lap, with Nepa trying to regain control of his bike but losing valuable time. Ortola later fell at Turn 11, leading to his retirement.

Amidst the chaos, Collin Veijer and Joel Kelso were pushed off track but managed to hold onto their positions without losing much time. Angel Piqueras, who had retired in the previous race at Portimão, skillfully navigated the first lap and made an impressive climb from 17th to third place.

MLav Racing’s race at COTA went from bad to worse when Scott Ogden crashed, resulting in a double zero score for the team. However, Veijer made a remarkable recovery and overtook Yamanaka to secure second place with eight laps remaining.

Yamanaka of MT Helmets showed a fast pace and set the fastest lap while trying to regain second place. However, Veijer’s late braking gave him a slight advantage. With five laps to go, Kelso lost control of his bike but quickly regained composure and returned to the race in eighth place, behind his teammate David Munoz.

Unfortunately, Veijer suffered a fall at Turn 6 on the following lap, entering a dangerous section of the track. Yamanaka and Holgado had to take evasive action to avoid a collision, allowing Alonso to extend his lead from 2.5s to over 4.5s.

This set the stage for an exciting three-way battle between Piqueras, Yamanaka, and Holgado in the final three laps. On the last lap, Piqueras executed a crucial overtake on the back straight, but Holgado defended his position going into the final corner, resulting in a photo finish for second place.

Alonso’s dominant victory, his second of the 2024 season, narrowed the gap between him and Holgado in the championship race. However, Holgado maintains the lead with a third consecutive podium, while Piqueras secures the final spot on the podium.

Vetijer’s late fall from Husqvarna propelled Munoz and Kelso from Boe Motorsports to fifth and seventh place, respectively, with Tatsuki Suzuki in between. Joel Esteban had a quiet race but kept up his consistent performance in his rookie season, finishing in ninth place with the CFMoto Aspar team.

Matteo Bertelle, Honda’s lead rider, achieved his best result of the season, completing the top 10. Adrian Fernandez of Leopard Racing and LevelUp rookie Nicola Carraro finished in 11th and 12th place, respectively, with Fernandez struggling to adapt to his new team.

Xabi Zurutua of Ajo Motorsport scored points after Jose Antonio Rueda’s late withdrawal, while Noah Dettwiler secured his first points in the Moto Grand Prix World Championship with a 14th place finish.

Despite a challenging start, Farioli managed to salvage a point by finishing 32.147s behind the leader.
