The Italian police now have a hybrid Alfa Romeo Tonale in their fleet. The new vehicle will be in service of the Polizia di Stato in Turin and was delivered at an event held at the Alfa Romeo Centro Stile.
Eight hundred and fifty Alfa Romeo Tonale with a specific configuration are destined for various police stations throughout Italy to maintain control in their respective local areas.
Equipped with a 1,500 cc gasoline hybrid engine with 163 hp, a seven-speed automatic transmission, ballistic and anti-shatter protection, and equipped with “Mercurio Extended” technology – to speed up checks during operations, the new fleet of Tonale will be distributed to Italian police stations starting in December.
The delivery of this new model for use by the police forces is part of a partnership that began in the 1950s between Alfa Romeo and the security forces, with the 1900 Super TI Speciale. It continued in the 1960s and 1970s with the production of the iconic Giulietta 1300 and Giulia Super 1600, and to the blue and white Alfa Romeo 33 police cars that hit the Italian roads in the early 1980s, replaced over time by the Alfa Romeo 155, 159, and Julia.
