At the Paris Motor Show, which runs until next weekend, Alfa Romeo has introduced a new addition to its lineup with the new compact SUV that marks the Italian brand’s return to the B segment.
This is the Junior Speciale Hybrid, which features a hybrid powertrain with a variable geometry turbo delivering 136 hp. The internal combustion engine is a 1.2-liter three-cylinder with a Miller cycle and chain drive for maximum reliability. The electric component consists of a 48-volt lithium-ion battery and a 29 hp electric motor integrated into the new 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, which works in conjunction with the inverter and transmission control unit to ensure maximum efficiency.
Alfa Romeo also revealed that the adoption of this hybrid technology allows the Junior Hybrid to operate in urban environments in 100% electric mode for over 50% of the time.
Furthermore, the system also has the capability to regenerate energy during deceleration phases, sending it back to the battery, as well as providing additional power during acceleration to enhance availability at low revs and improve response during starts.
This hybrid version of the new compact SUV from Alfa Romeo features the usual three driving modes: Dynamic, which offers a sporty response from the steering, accelerator, and transmission; Natural, designed for everyday driving; and Advanced Efficiency, which prioritizes efficiency.
In terms of aesthetics, the most striking features of the Junior Speciale Hybrid on display at the Paris Motor Show include the new reinterpretation of the “Legend” emblem, the bold dual exhaust outlets, sporty matte finishes with accents in the new and already iconic Brera red, and the 18” ‘Fori’ alloy wheels. Inside, highlights include sporty elements and exclusive specifications, such as a leather steering wheel and Sabelt sports seats with a enveloping backrest, complemented by an 8-color interior lighting that highlights the air vents, central console, and the iconic Telescope.
To complete an already very sophisticated finish, the standard safety features include level 2 autonomous driving, connected navigation, a 180° rearview camera, hands-free electric tailgate, and a keyless system with proximity access technology as standard.
