Alex Palou’s Electrifying Pole Victory at Mid Ohio Sets the Stage for IndyCar Showdown

Alex Palou (10) is a blur out of turn 5, Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the IndyCar XPEL Grand Prix at Elkhart Lake’s Road America near Elkhart Lake, Wis.

In a breathtaking display of skill and speed, Alex Palou has once again showcased his dominance in the IndyCar series by claiming the pole position at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course. This marks Palou’s third pole of the season and sets the stage for what could be his seventh win in just 10 races with Chip Ganassi Racing.

Palou’s stellar performance in qualifying has been a game-changer in the 2025 season, with the Spaniard expressing his satisfaction with the team’s improved qualifying results this year. He stated, “The speed we have in the cars in every single race track (where) we show up, it’s been amazing.” Palou faced tough competition from Christian Lundgaard, who secured the second spot on the grid.

However, the real surprise of the session was the emergence of Kyffin Simpson, who put on a remarkable performance to clinch third place in the final round, highlighting his potential in the series. Additionally, young talent Nolan Siegel impressed with a career-best qualifying effort, securing the fourth position on the grid.

The qualifying session also saw familiar names like Colton Herta and Louis Foster securing respectable positions in the top six. Notably, Foster delivered a standout performance to claim the top spot in the closing seconds of the Fast 12 session.

On the other hand, it was a disappointing outing for some big names in the series, with Kyle Kirkwood missing out on the Fast Six and having to settle for seventh place on the grid. Team Penske also faced a setback, with all three drivers failing to advance to the top qualifiers in their respective sessions.

As the stage is set for the Honda Indy 200, all eyes will be on Palou as he looks to convert his pole position into yet another victory. The race is scheduled to go live on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX, promising an action-packed event for motorsport enthusiasts worldwide.
