The reigning four-time IndyCar Series champion proved his mettle from the moment the green flag waved, launching into Turn 1 with an unwavering command that would see him lead a staggering 79 of the 90 laps. His dominance was evident as he crossed the finish line a whopping 13.2775 seconds ahead of Arrow McLaren's Christian Lundgaard, marking Palou's third win in just six starts on the 2.3-mile, 17-turn natural terrain road course, elevating his career victory count to an impressive 21.
“I had an incredible day with the #10 DHL Honda car,” exclaimed the 28-year-old driver. “Qualifying was one of the best-balanced cars I’ve ever driven. Today was fantastic from start to finish, even though we faced some challenges with the used tires. But ultimately, it was a decision we had to make on strategy, and winning here is just incredible. I love this place and the fans!”
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing's Graham Rahal secured third place, marking his first podium finish since the second Indy GP race of 2023, while Team Penske’s David Malukas and Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood rounded out the top five.
With this latest victory, Palou has surged to just two points behind Kirkwood in the overall standings, with a tally of 156 points compared to Kirkwood's 154. Lundgaard trails closely behind in third, 35 points adrift.
Palou's race began with him opting for the harder primary tire, and he quickly established his lead, leaving front-row competitor Malukas in the dust as they barreled into Turn 1. The first few laps saw the field navigate cleanly, with intense battles brewing throughout the pack. Lundgaard, starting from 10th, exhibited his aggressive driving style early on, making a daring move past Marcus Ericsson into Turn 5 to claim seventh position, albeit with slight contact.
As the race progressed, Lundgaard continued his march upward, overtaking Santino Ferrucci just four laps later. Meanwhile, Ericsson's fortunes dwindled, prompting an early pit stop on Lap 14 to switch from primaries to the softer alternate tires. This strategic move sent ripples through the field as others quickly followed suit, adjusting their strategies on the fly.
