Alex Albon exposes Mercedes’ influence in extended deal with Williams.

Alex Albon acknowledged that Williams’ affiliation with Mercedes played a crucial role in determining his future in Formula 1.

Most of the Formula 1 driver market remains undefined for the 2025 season. Several drivers, including [names], are still uncertain about securing a team. However, amidst this uncertainty, Alex Albon has already committed to a multi-year contract with Williams for the upcoming season. The Thai-British driver was considered by several other teams, but chose to stay with the Grove-based constructor.

Mercedes provides power units to Williams in Formula 1. Therefore, Williams benefits from Mercedes’ success in achieving solid results. Despite Mercedes’ struggles during the ground effect era, Albon expressed confidence in the capabilities of the German manufacturer. He noted that Mercedes seemed to be ahead of their competitors during regulatory changes, which influenced his decision to extend his contract with Grove.

For Alex Albon, selecting Williams and Mercedes was a safe and reliable choice. Additionally, Grove has been collaborating with Mercedes since the 2014 season. This partnership positions Brackley to develop a promising engine for the regulatory changes in the 2026 season. Albon also emphasized that other midfield teams opting for a different engine would incur significant expenses.

The current season has been anything but ordinary for Williams, with numerous incidents occurring since the start of the season. [Name] has consistently failed to achieve positive results, while Alex Albon is doing his best. Currently, the team is tied with Alpine in eighth place, with only two points. However, the team remains optimistic about achieving better results in the upcoming seasons.

Alex Albon emphasized his desire to start the 2026 season in good shape, even though Williams is still in its development phase. However, if the team does not get off to a good start under the new regulations, they have a backup plan. A high-performance engine developed by Mercedes according to the new regulations would greatly benefit Grove in the future.

If Sargeant fails to deliver good results, Williams will reconsider their driver lineup for the next season. The team had a successful end to the 2023 season, scoring 28 points, with a single point contributed by the American driver. As a result, Grove will continue to introduce several upgrades during the season to establish an advantage over Alpine.
