The 28-year-old Thai driver Alex Albon is currently in his third season with the team, after joining Formula 1 through the Red Bull program. However, his career was almost ruined during his two years with the energy drinks organization, until Williams offered him an opportunity.
After a year away, Albon returned to the Formula 1 grid in 2022 and hopes to continue racing for a few more years, if all goes according to plan.
Albon expressed his satisfaction with the news, stating: “I am extremely happy to continue with Williams Racing and keep working with a group of talented and dedicated individuals. The year started challenging, but since I joined Williams, we have made significant progress together.
“I have witnessed tremendous changes happening behind the scenes to bring us back to the top of the grid. This is a long-term project that I truly believe in and want to play a crucial role in, so I have signed a multi-year contract.
“The journey will take time, but I am confident that we are building the right team to progress and achieve remarkable things in the coming years,” Albon stated.
James Vowles, head of Williams F1, added: “We are thrilled to secure Alex’s future at Williams Racing. He has exceptional talent, technical knowledge, and a strong commitment to our cause. This is a significant vote of confidence in Williams and our pursuit of competitiveness.
“Since joining us, Alex has consistently demonstrated his ability to perform under pressure, and securing his long-term stay is a crucial piece of the puzzle in our quest to move up the grid,” Vowles commented.
Alex Albon has committed to a long-term partnership with the team. The Thai driver has signed a contract extension that will take him into the new era of Formula 1 regulations, indicating a shared belief in the team’s upward trajectory.
Since joining Williams Racing, Albon has shown remarkable determination and dedication, both on and off the track. His performance since joining the team before the 2022 FIA Formula 1 World Championship played a vital role in the team’s progress and success, significantly contributing to their best championship position, seventh place, since 2017.
This extended partnership highlights Williams Racing’s commitment to building a competitive team capable of challenging for podiums and championships in Formula 1.
