Adrian Newey

The renowned designer, Adrian Newey, has officially embarked on his journey with Aston Martin, set to influence the team’s 2025 and 2026 car projects. This is according to the team’s principal, Andy Cowell, who is confident about Newey’s role in shaping the future of Aston Martin.

Newey’s enlistment was acknowledged as one of Aston Martin’s primary triumphs of the previous year. However, the team had to bide its time until the first Monday of March before he could transition from Red Bull. Cowell, who assumed the position of team principal earlier this year, is optimistic that Newey’s arrival will invigorate the team, offering him the autonomy to make significant modifications to the current car.

The entire team is buzzing with anticipation to collaborate with Newey, said Cowell. “His track record undeniably speaks volumes. We are eager to welcome him on-site, introduce him to our key technical players, familiarize him with our engineering tools, and finally dive into the creation of the 2026 car while enhancing the 2025 model.”

Cowell expressed confidence in Newey’s integration into the Aston Martin technical team in his official capacity as managing technical partner. This comes on the back of a recent reconfiguration within the rapidly expanding team, aimed at streamlining the organization and improving its efficiency.

Earlier this year, Aston Martin announced some organisational changes to create a flatter, more efficient structure with faster communication. There’s been an increased emphasis on trackside focus and factory development, particularly crucial this year with the introduction of new regulations set to last for five years.

Cowell elaborated on the importance of having different individuals focusing on separate projects. He emphasized the team’s commitment to constant improvement and the pursuit of excellence. “We aim to ensure that every department is giving its best, continually reflecting and improving. We believe that this approach will accelerate our development rate, allowing us to outpace and stay ahead of our competitors.”

In a recent interview with a BBC podcast, Newey refrained from projecting any expectations for his tenure at Aston Martin, having been associated with Red Bull for nearly 20 years. He expressed his eagerness to familiarize himself with the team, understand their working mechanisms, and integrate himself seamlessly. Newey is keen to start dialogues with the drivers and his fellow engineers, aiming to foster a creative environment.

With Newey’s arrival and the team’s commitment to continuous improvement, Aston Martin is poised to make significant strides in the coming years. The team is hopeful that Newey’s influence will be instrumental in shaping their 2025 and 2026 car projects.
