Adrian Newey’s Aston Martin Debut: Christian Horner’s Outrageous “Giant Bogey” Comparison

Christian Horner, the outspoken Red Bull team principal, didn’t hold back when commenting on Adrian Newey’s appearance in Aston Martin attire at the Monaco Grand Prix. Horner humorously compared Newey to a “giant bogey” in his new green uniform, marking Newey’s trackside debut with his new team.

Adrian Newey, the F1 design mastermind, has been a key figure in Red Bull’s success over the years, working closely with Horner and leading drivers like Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen. However, Newey’s recent switch to Aston Martin has raised eyebrows in the F1 community, with Horner playfully teasing his long-time colleague about his new look.

Despite the light-hearted banter, Newey’s presence at Aston Martin signifies a new chapter in his illustrious career. As the managing technical partner and team shareholder, Newey brings a wealth of experience and insight to the Silverstone-based outfit, aiming to propel them to the pinnacle of F1 success.

During the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, Aston Martin team principal Andy Cowell shed light on Newey’s involvement with the team. Despite focusing primarily on the 2026 F1 program, Newey has been actively engaging with the engineering team to enhance the performance of the 2025 car, demonstrating his commitment to driving Aston Martin forward.

Cowell emphasized the value of having Newey on board, citing his creativity and expertise as invaluable assets in Aston Martin’s quest for competitiveness. By immersing himself in the team’s operations and race weekend strategies, Newey’s presence is set to elevate Aston Martin’s performance on and off the track.

While Newey’s visit to Monaco serves as a learning opportunity for both himself and the team, the prospect of his attendance at future races in the 2025 season remains a possibility. As Aston Martin continues to refine its approach and strive for excellence in F1, Newey’s influence is poised to make a lasting impact on the team’s trajectory.

In the high-stakes world of Formula 1, the addition of a visionary like Adrian Newey to Aston Martin’s ranks signifies a bold statement of intent. With Horner’s playful jabs highlighting the camaraderie between the two F1 stalwarts, all eyes are on Newey as he navigates the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in his new role.
