In a stunning revelation, aerodynamic mastermind Adrian Newey has exposed a critical misstep that could threaten Red Bull’s continued dominance in Formula 1. The legendary designer, who announced his departure from Red Bull in May 2024, has now admitted that the team failed to address serious car performance issues—issues that could come back to haunt them in 2025.

Despite a record-breaking 2023 season, Newey insists that Red Bull ignored the warning signs, allowing problems to snowball into 2024. While Max Verstappen adapted, his teammate Sergio Pérez struggled, revealing fundamental weaknesses in the car’s evolution.

Newey: “Red Bull Didn’t Take Our Car Struggles Seriously”

Red Bull dominated the first two seasons of F1’s ground-effect era, but underlying issues began emerging in late 2023. According to Newey, the car became harder to drive, something Verstappen managed, but Pérez couldn’t handle.

🗣️ “Late in 2023, Red Bull’s car became increasingly difficult to drive, a trend that continued into 2024. Max could handle that. It didn’t suit him, but he could handle it. Checo couldn’t.”

However, when Newey raised concerns about this issue, he claims Red Bull dismissed them.

🗣️ “It’s something I was starting to become concerned about, but not many other people in the organization seemed to be very concerned about it.”

This lack of urgency led to compounding problems in 2024, with even Verstappen struggling at times.

Red Bull’s Inexperience Exposed?

One of Newey’s most shocking admissions was that Red Bull’s technical team may have lacked the experience to recognize and correct these problems.

🗣️ “From what I can see from the outside, but I don’t know, the guys at Red Bull – this is no criticism – I think they just, perhaps through lack of experience, kept going in that same direction. And the problem became more and more acute to the point that even Max found it difficult to drive.”

This statement suggests that Red Bull’s engineering team, despite its recent dominance, may not have the same depth of experience as rival teams like Ferrari and Mercedes, who have navigated multiple eras of regulation changes.

Could Red Bull Be Vulnerable in 2025?

Although Verstappen still secured the 2024 title, Red Bull’s performance gap shrank significantly. Ferrari, McLaren, and even Mercedes closed in by the end of the season, raising serious questions about whether Red Bull can maintain its dominance into 2025.

🚨 Key concerns for Red Bull in 2025:
✔️ Car development missteps – Can they correct their balance issues?
✔️ Verstappen’s adaptability vs. Pérez’s struggles – Can Checo keep up?
✔️ Rival teams closing the gap – Will Ferrari and McLaren take the fight to Red Bull?
✔️ Adrian Newey’s absence – Can Red Bull maintain its edge without him?

Has Red Bull’s Era of Dominance Peaked?

Newey’s departure marks a turning point in Red Bull’s F1 dynasty. If Ferrari, McLaren, or even Mercedes capitalize on Red Bull’s weaknesses, 2025 could see the first real power shift since Verstappen’s reign began.

💬 Will Red Bull’s failure to act on its 2023 problems come back to haunt them?
💬 Can they maintain dominance without Adrian Newey’s genius?
💬 Are Ferrari and McLaren ready to dethrone Verstappen?
