The ACO has revealed the lineup for the 2024 Le Mans 24 Hours, which will feature a total of 62 cars across three different categories. The largest class in this century consists of nine factory teams, with 23 Hypercars competing for the overall victory, along with 16 LMP2s and 23 LMGT3s.
Among the notable entries is the V-Series.R from Action Express, making its return after its debut last year. It will be numbered as No. 311 and will join forces with two Ganassi-run examples. Cadillac will bring three drivers from Ganassi’s IMSA’s GTP program to join the team’s sister car in the FIA WEC.
The AXR Caddy will have its two full-season drivers listed, Pipo Derani and Jack Aitken, confirmed. The No. 3 from Ganassi will have Sebastien Bourdais, Renger van Der Zande, and Scott Dixon as its drivers. The No. 2 WEC Cadillac will have Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn as drivers, with the third seat being taken by IndyCar star Alex Palou.
Porsche will also have a third factory car, with Penske bringing one of its IMSA 963s – the No. 4 – to the race, with only Mathieu Jaminet currently listed as the driver. Lamborghini has been granted a second Iron Lynx-run SC63, which will run as No. 19, with Romain Grosjean, Andrea Caldarelli, and Matteo Cairoli as drivers.
The LMP2 grid is surprisingly large, with 16 cars in total, one more than the minimum requirement. Five cars come from teams currently competing in IMSA, including United Autosports, AO Racing, Inter Europol, and AF Corse. The class also features notable IMSA driving talent such as Louis Deletraz, Filipe Albuquerque, and Colin Braun.
All 16 prototypes in the LMP2 class are ORECA 07s, with five cars earning automatic invitations to participate in the race. The remaining 11 cars come from the ELMS full-season entry list, with six of them having taken part in the Asian Le Mans Series.
In the LMGT3 class, there are a total of 23 cars, all equipped with Goodyear tires. Apart from the 18 full-season FIA WEC cars, two earned invitations have been granted to the No. 44 Ford Mustang from Proton Competition and the No. 70 Inception Racing McLaren. The class also includes entries from Pure Rxcing, JMW Motorsport, GR Racing, and Spirit of Race.
It is worth noting that this is the first time since 1999 that Corvette Racing will not have a factory team presence in the race. Additionally, there will not be a Garage 56 Innovative car in the 2024 race.
The reserve list includes seven cars, five of which are full-season ELMS entries. The remaining two are the second Proton Porsche 963 and an American-flagged ORECA for Staysail Motorsport and ELMS regular Michael Dinan.
